in many episodes that feature the maid, i always notice that her voice is the highest quality sound in the entire episode while the others have this slight muffle expected in a classic cartoon. Were these episodes dubbed in modern releases for something?

Some of them were to make Mammy two shoes not sound so black. I have a cartoon that was taped off the tv where her voice was redubbed with an Irish accent.

I felt it was stupid that they did that. I used to watch all those older cartoons and she did sound straight up black. I then saw it later on, and realized she sounded like a white woman or had an odd accent. They shoulda just left it alone. The only thing I do agree with their "changhing" though is the whole portrayal of her being...well...kind of stupid.

One cartoon that comes to mind is an older one, where Jerry set it up so that "Jasper" had to catch all the plates. He was trying to keep them from falling, and then Jerry kicked him and he broke all the plates. "Mammy" came in there, hit Tom and then was dragging him out. Said he has to go out..."o-w-t...out". I think they changed that for the later versions of that.
