Ive owned my pc for 4 years already, and it's really slow after the startup process even after being in stand by mode. before, ive tried uninstalling programs i no longer need, deleting a LOT of old files, and the other profiles but my pc is still the same. I've been performing this procedure with a lot of past (mostly second hand) pc's and theyre still the same, so ive been wondering:

are they running slow because they're old?
is it the size of the useful programs that are still in there?

is there a procedure im missing from what ive already tried?

Specs would help. My PC used to be pretty slow with windows 2000(it is from 2002), But i upgraded it to XP and added more RAM and today its pretty usable.

    Windows XP Pro
    512MB of RAM
    1GHz Pentium III

...Now alot of the gamer epople will tell you that that isn't nearly what you need, but it works for me.

Tell me knuke, are you a PC gamer?

Reformat and reinstall windows. Make sure you back up what you want to keep first. The windows registry gets cluttered after several years and there is little you can do about it. Another thing you can try is going to START and then RUN and type MSCONFIG. Under the STARTUP tab uncheck the stuff you don't need to load when you boot your computer up and then reboot. Also make sure you reboot your computer once in a while sleep mode is not the same thing.

You deleted and uninstalled a lot- did you defragment your hard drive?

-I wouldnt think emulation counts as PC gaming

--Reformatting is something i'd do as a last resort. sometimes my bro will use that pc cuz he still has stuff in there

---I have doubts that'll work, but maybe it will on THIS computer

thanks all. keep it open just in case though.

My computer sucks on flash-animated things like Knuclears avatar and Caps Signature.
