The first time I saw a 1971 Mustang up close was in the fall of 1970 at the neighborhood Seven-Eleven around sunset. Under the darkening sky with the lights from the store highlighting it, this Mustang had the longest hood that I have ever seen.

A few months later, when a neighbor bought a new Mustang, she gave me a "show-off" ride around the 'hood. Due to the low roof, Ford dropped the seats directly on the floor in order to provide headroom.

Long hood, low roof and seats on the floor - I couldn't see where we were going!

Everytime I look at this pic I can't believe this Lincoln is from 1961.

    You know it!

When I used to work for a general contractor I had to haul away debris from the site to the dumps on a regular basis. Well, this one dump in particular was basically just a huge, muddy field. I was driving a 2500 Silverado at the time, and I would always have a little fun before I left. Fishtailing all over that dump, and every time my my boss would say to himself "Gee, that thing needs a washing!"

I have to admit, that's one kickass picture. Looks like fun to me too.

Tell me about it. I hear they still run em into the ground in Toronto, Canada. I hear that they sometimes sell them for like $5000.

    A Better Idea from FORD/LINCOLN/MERCURY:
    The 5,000 lb Sports Car!

Here is a pic of the 1973 Mercury Montego GT from the showroom brochure. You can tell it's sporty because it has hood scoops, louvers on the rear quarter panels and a GT badge on the fenders. Check out the white-wall tires, Camaro drivers beware!

Haven't seen one in years. Looks like a 1970 Buick GSX part of the Skylark series.
