Anyone remember the movie, "The Last Unicorn?"

They used a crappy print to make the dvd. You're MUCH better off buying a bootleg off Ebay, or at a comic book convention. I have this travesty, a bootleg dvd (much higher quality, and WAY better box-art. It has the german cover, translated into english), and 2 vhs cassettes.

Deleted 8 years 6 months ago Posts: 54340	I just watched this a few months ago (I'm 20 now) and probably hadn't seen it since I was 7...and it is an incredibly sad and depressing movie! Seriously, this is not a kid's movie. And that thing happens where you see something as a kid and it seems epic, then you see it when you're older and you're like "Oh, it wasn't 4 hours long...it was like an hour and a half." But...yeah, sad, scary...this was weird for my parents to show me and my sisters.

Deleted 8 years 6 months ago Posts: 54340	yeah, def a littel depressing in retrospect, but it is a good movie. I am 19, and i used to watch it with my little sister all the time. My fave part is when the harpy kills mommy fortuna, ans tells the unicorn "we are sisters, you and i", and that magician who sucked but cam into his own, i cant remebr his name....somehting like melvin, it was an m word. Great movie, def a classic, got one of the songs stuck inn my head (the one with the butterfly)

I loved the drunk skeleton, and as a kid it always freaked me out when his eyes glowed and he said "OH NO, NOT [u]THAT[/u] ONE!"

Deleted 8 years 5 months ago Posts: 54340	Yes, this movie was very strange. It was one of the movies my parents had for me to watch. I watched it way too many times. In the last couple years I got an old copy on VHS. Watching it now I got so much more of what is going on. Its amazing a kid can watch the same thing over and over and not understand what is going on really... It is pretty scary too. I used to watch The neverending story, Last Unicorn, The Dark Crystal... all of which are a bit freaky for a young kid. The opening song brings back the memories... kinda makes me sad in a way.

It seems fine to me. Dude, the old vhs version has better picture quality than the american dvd. The colors don't bleed (dvd: The first 4 minutes, and every other time where dark blue and black are close together onscreen, as well as the Red Bulls Cave when it's enraged near the end), and the picture doesn't flicker between normal and slightly darker as it does every now and then when there's a sky blue background...basically the first quarter of the movie. As I've said, and it's been noted by all reviewers of this dvd: A dusty, ill-treated print of the original was used for this dvd.

The unicorn asks, "Tell me, do you know where the other unicorns are?" to which he replies, "Oh do you know the Muffin Man, the Muffin Man, the Muffin Maaaaaaaaan....". There must've been something funny in the pollen he was sniffing. I also liked the theme song "The Last Unicooooorn".

Tangerine Dream's "Loved By The Sun"?

The weird thing is is that after I met my husband, we were watching the movie legend together and seeing the unicorns he said"hey, did you ever watch the last unicorn? I used to watch that movie all the time"I was like wow, we are MADE for each other I always used to think(still do actually)it was a sad and depressing movie and that is maybe why I like it. The animation is beautiful and I love the songs by America.

Also, thought I would throw this out there....they are planning to turn it into a real movie this year (not animated) and last I heard all of the original people were going to do it, but I am not sure if that's still true or not considering the imdb site has changed. http://imdb.com/title/tt0314301/ hope that works lol
