I am not now, nor have I ever been, a Beatles fan.

I want to be up front and honest with everyone as I tell this story.

One day in 1968 I came home from school to an empty house. When no one was around I would crank up the old stereo and listen to some music. There was something new in the record stash - a label of a big green apple.

It said, BEATLES - "Hey Jude"

"Huh, a beatles tune I've never heard of", so I played it.

    OMG!

This was music like beyond the kiddie stuff I liked. It was like being in love for the first time. It was like feeling joy for the first time. It was like achieving sight after being blind all my life.

I sat there on the couch unable to move. An earthquake wouldn't have moved me from that spot as long as that music played. This was an experience that many of you have gone through with a song that caused your brain to make new connections.

Just like remembering where you were on 9/11, a lot of us oldtimers remember the first time we heard "Hey Jude".

Overrated is a little harsh. Lets just say I'm not a typical music fan.

My love for anything dies from over-exposure. So you can see my problem here.
I've had people shove music down my ears because its Great Music,
and all I can think is "get a fuckin' life already".

Because of the overreaction to the Beatles, I've moved on.
