And the original Pokemon series from the 90's I don't think counts as anime, but I just don't get it. What's the appeal? Even some "retro" anime shows I hate. Can somebody who loves anime tell me the appeal of characters with weird eyes screaming stuff and shit? Thanks and please don't kill me.

Mezase Master 4 years 4 months ago Posts: 9096	I hate any kind of animé that's, you know, really hardcore in-your-face giant robots and over exaggerated expressions animé. There are very few I like, but the thing is, the shows I do like are the ones that actually stand out from the piles and piles of repetitive crap. Generally, those ones are so good that I never really get tired of them. People who obsess over animé and think it's infinitely superior to any other form of animation you should certainly avoid. I honestly don't get the appeal of just all Japanese cartoons in general. Most of it's the same thing over and over taking some new theme and setting, hell I've seen plenty of individual shows that are less redundant than multiple animés put together. To each their own, I guess.

The "action lines" in the background are retarded and i hate it when their mouths only have two positions, closed and a perfect large 'O'. Someone made a video on youtube saying that cartoon network was shitty from the start and that anime is way better.

As well as beautiful character designs, music and sometimes nudity, along with an episodic continuity that is almost endless. The one thing it can never have though, is America's humor but still manages to make us giggle. Sometimes I would recommend the shows on adult swim, but I would also recommend some on demand and online. not sure what youre into though

RetroxBunny 4 years 4 months ago Posts: 5733	I started to get less into anime since July of last year, but I'm still into some of the old retro anime like Project A-ko, Dirty Pair, etc. I RARELY like any anime shows today. Some look okay, but I want to resist going through a "anime craze". Only shows I like are FullMetal Alchemist, and probably another title I forgot. But what I am sick of are people talking Japanese and taking classes either to watch unsubtitled anime or there love for the 'super-awesome' counrty Japan.

I don't care for shows in general that deal with giant robots, so shows like Voltron wouldn't appeal to me, and most of the Gundam series. Some people like drama-series, stuff like Fruits Basket would probably appeal to them. Some people like screwed up humor, shows like Excel Saga would probably appeal to them. It just totally depends on the series and the genre. Anyone who says they "hate anime", and yet, have watched series and liked them (like say the stuff Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. used to show back in the 80s), are nothing buy hypocrites. Glad animation isn't a big deal to me. I was watching "anime" WAAAAAAAY before I even knew what "anime" was.

Wind Adept 4 years 4 months ago Posts: 1200 Account Disabled	I agree that plots are overused in anime, but there is the odd ones that I like like Dragonball (I prefer it over Dragonball Z becasue unlike DBZ, it's not full of repetetive fighting scenes, and actually has alot of witty humour) Ranma 1/2 ( the plot is original, has main characters that have thier unique personality quirks, and the series has very complex love triangles) and FLCL( though very random, has not only japanese humour but several comical references to american pop culture) and I have to say that Pokemon, though original when it came out, is now very repetetive, every episode goes like this; Ash and his friends find a pokemon they haven't seen yet and try to catch but run into quarrels with a rival trainer, which is always usually broken up when team rocket attempt to steal the rival trainer's pokemon, and if there is no rival trainer or friend in that episode they would be attempting to steal pikachu, they would then get pwned by Ash and his friends, and pikachu would always shock them, and, for some weird reason, the electricity would cause them to explode and blast off, rinse and repeat.
