    As an actor he played many roles ranging from Kunta Kinte in Roots, to Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The reason I put him in this forum is for his work with Readin Rainbow. Not many people know he created and prduced the program, along with being the host. He dedicated thousands of dollars and personal time trying to make reading fun for kids. I used to love the show when I was a kid, because they not only talked about books, he also went out in the real world and showed different things from the Great Wall of China,
    to how butter is made. It was like a National Geographic for kids. Anyway, for his tireless efforts in making child education fun, I consider him a hero.

    But you don't have to take MY word for it............
    I'll see ya next time! *cue Reading Rainbow theme*

    It's a "magic" banana clip. It can only see through cloths, not poker cards.

    Levar Burton is an American Icon.

    Him as Kunta Kente in Roots was enough to cement his greatness in TV history, but nah. He went and made READING MOTHERFUCKIN RAINBOW and just took it to a whole nother level. He went from mere mortal actor to a TELEVISION GAWD.

    Aww...LeVar Burton rules. Reading Rainbow was one of my favorite shows on PBS as a kid, along with Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?, Ghostwriter, Kiddsongs (I think that was on PBS), Lamb Chops, Barney, and Sesame Street.
    Garfield: "My car is so old, that it's insured against theft, flood, fire and dinosaur stampedes!"

    Garfield: "The local bus transit is doing their part to help with the weight loss program: each year, they stop further and further away from the curb!

    As if Roots, Star Trek TNG and Reading Rainbow weren't already enough to forever cement his coolness status, he was also in Cameo's video for Word Up;

    My 4th grade class and the 5th grade class went to the taping of the Reading Rainbow 10th Anniversary Special for a Field Trip, back in 1994. So I got to meet LaVar Burton.
