I am currently in the process of trying to fix my NES, which is in pieces right scattered all over the floor. I found this site which instructs how to repair a faulty 72-pin connector. I took it out and did what it said, however, I can not get the pins to stay up! Not to mention it doesn't say what to do with the safety tabs, which tend to get in the way, so I'm not sure if I should leave them in or not! Anyone know what to do, or perhaps any alternative solutions?

I'm not a person with a 72 pin connector NES. Mine has just always worked fine. I think there's really no reason to get one. There's really no difference, except without one you just need to blow into the cartridge.

Well I only have this one NES and I'd like to attempt to fix it before replacing it. I'd also like to note they aren't too specific about which tabs to fix (they say the bottom ones but not what way to hold the connector), but I'm pretty sure I can tell which one from the big and little U's on that page. I'm also not quite certain how far the pin's supposed to go up, if it's such a tiny bit you can't tell the difference I just may be doing it right without even realizing... but I don't wanna put my whole NES back together if I'm not certain.

Nah man, not nostalgic about a system I never had. :(

Anyways, so I found out how to do it and put the NES back together last night.

    Good news:

No matter how many times I turn it on or reset it, the system doesn't reset itself any more!

    Bad news:

The screen is pink no matter what, just like when I attempted to use it with games before repairing it (although now it no longer resets). However, I've heard simply cleaning it fixes this.

My game won't even come up any more when you press down on it! And it was working fine right before I assembled the system back together!

Looks like I have more work ahead of me today.

I dunno. Nostalgia never fueled me. Just the fact that these older games are way better than anything new. And the fact that the retarded design of the US nes pissed me off so much I sold it as a kid. Japanese model 2 nes and model 1 snes look better anyway.

Buy a new connector off the Nintendo Repair website and don't forget to get a cleaning kit for your cartridge. Is it recommended to clean every cartridge before using the new connector.

Anyway, that's what I did and I don't have problem with my NES anymore.

Golden pins? I did consider getting a replacement just in case... but what, they made some kind of holy connector?

You spit in your cartridge? Why not just run it under the sink? You corrode the connections that way..
