The feeling backstage was that Undertaker needed to take some time off to heal a number of nagging injuries, hence the storyline writing him out of WWE programming. There doesn't appear to be an exact time frame on his return, but it isn't expected to be too long. They did a retirement storyline this time around because Vince McMahon didn't want to go with yet another injury angle. Undertaker has been written out of TV a few times in recent years due to real injuries and McMahon didn't want to give the perception that his body is breaking down. When Undertaker returns he is expected to resume his long-term program with Edge. At Wrestlemania 25 The Undertaker will Be Retiring and also be one of the people in the 2009 Hall of fame.

I have to ask...Is there really such a thing as retirement in wrestling? I've read wrestlers retiring...then coming back...then retiring...then coming back...then retiring...and so on. Does anybody really retire in the wrestling world or do they just keep going?

I figured his previous title reign would probably be his last. Maybe they will let him win the belt again in his final match at Wrestlemania. Honestly I want to see him put somebody in a body bag one more time.

TMNT, you should totally make a video montage of The Undertaker's greatest hits for YouTube. Narrated by yourself, of course. Play-by-play and all.

This was pretty much known already ever since he came back with his "Pale Rider" gimmick that he has now. He wanted to retire using the same shtick he had when he debuted and this is no surprise. He's going out with a bang and deservedly so.

Many wrestlers do retire and never come back. Not everyone is Terry Funk.

The way I see it, retiring from wrestling means that you stop with the day-to-day training and working out and the traveling from state to state week after week for good.

You make special appearances from time to time here and there; you may even have a special match or two, but the daily grind of being a professional in-ring performer is basically over.

It's kinda like Jay-Z. He "retired" from being on a bunch of concert tours and is now mostly a producer, but he's not totally away from the concert scene, doing a few concerts here and there.

Not really. 'Taker's been doing this his whole career. He'll wrestle for a while, then leave due to injury or for time off, then come back again and so on.

Here's him in his initial garb in the early '90s:

Then he left and came back in the mid '90s:

Left again, returned in the late 90's:

Only to leave again and return at the turn of the century:

Then left yet again and came back with his current incarnation:

When he returns again, I'm wondering what he'll look like. I hope it's a derivative of his late 90's persona. That version was friggin awesome.

It would be nice if 'Taker had one more title reign before he retires.
