Right, despite the fact that both have secret headquarters beneath the earth, need five robots to form (represented by animals), five young pilots to do it, and fight off alien monsters tossed at them by an evil overlord. And damn, those legs look so alike. Oh, and the weapon used to destroy said horrible monster? A sword. Imagine that. It's not a ripoff, just a new take on a cool concept.

Voltron only has lion heads Voltron is animated, MMPR is live action. etc etc Thanks Captian! Another question, why did Sven leave the team?
