I couldn't have said it better myself. It all depends on the anime.

I've never found one that sounded better dubbed.
What about shows like Cowboy Bebop and .hack//SIGN. IMO, these two shows had pretty good dubs. Seems they're good dubbed and subbed.

I like subs more than dubs. I only like dubs for one thing. they sound WAAAAAAAAAAAY better (with the right directing, people, writing, translating etc) while japanese voice acting sounds generic and most characters sound the same. yknow, theres the serious, deep voiced guy, the high pitched whiny nasally girl, the mature deep voiced woman or young man, the soft speaking cute voiced lady...

No reason to watch anime subtitles since the animation is always so bad that even the original language doesn't match lip movements.

I've never noticed that about any series I've seen...then again, it's not like I've seen "everything" and thus, can't actually make that kind of a blanket statement.

Whoa whoa whoa, when did everybody here become a weeaboo? I always like dubs better, they're not usually bad enough to ruin the show or movie for me. I know people are going to say dumbass comments like "You haven't seen many dubs", "You're so stupid and can't read the text", "You're such a patriot I'm sure you give Bush a blowjob", etc. I think it's pretty lame that people will actually go as far as insults just because certain people happen to prefer dubs in just about every case, and that just shows how serious these people take it.

I've yet to come across one dub I'd consider "bad" for any anim series that I like, and I'm sure anything with a dub that's really that bad has been re-done since. They all leave in the original background music (SF2 Animated Movie aside, but that made up for it in several ways), choose good voice actors that you'll actually associate with the characters (I know people are going to play the race card as soon as I say this, but frankly all Japanese people sound almost the same to me, not because I'm racist, but because I didn't grow up around the language, pardon me for that), and if they really make edits, ala Shin-Chan, they always seem to be for the better and just make the show generally more appealing to me. Trust me, I can read and write very well, in fact we had writing and reading tests in school recently, I got a perfect on the writing and missed one question on the reading. I'm also a great multi-tasker, so obviously I can focus on both the text and the video, which I know from watching Bomberman Jetters and banned episodes of Pokmon.

But never are they more enjoyable in a language other than English, all that does is make it way more complex keeping up with stuff, and if I watch the same thing in two languages, no matter what I always enjoy it in English more. So yeah, I'm sorry for those of you who are pretty much ready to rape me for saying that, particularly Drakon, but I for one enjoy watching shows in my native language, because, you know, I sorta know it. Like really well.

Well for me it just depends on the specific show. I hate the American voice actors for naruto and watch that subtitled, but love the American voice actors for full metal alchemist over the Japanese ones.

    I'd say the same here.
The only good dubbed anime I'd watch would most likely be Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo.
But for everything else, I'd like it subbed.

Looks like I'm in the minority but I have to go with dubs. Subtitles are too distracting for me.

some anime are best left with subtitles than hearing the english dub. yu yu hakusho had decent voice acting, but some non main characters like kozaku had poor quality in voice direction

Dubs. I think you need to take cartoon watching really seriously to prefer subs.

That's never bothered me because most cartoons are usually that way. However, if the delivery of lines is poor then it becomes a problem.

I'd rather watch subs, but if I can only find the dubs I'll watch it. And if I've watched a little bit of both for one series. I'll usually prefer what I saw most of it in. Like if I saw most the series dubbed than I'll usually prefer the dub and vice versa.
