Subtitles rule. Dubbing is the dumbest thing ever. If you don't like it, then learn to read.

Hmmm... Tough choice. Subtitles are good to listen to the original voices and all that, but I don't want to be distracted by them and sort of takes a little away from the experience, in my opinion. Dubbing could also ruin it by poor translations or stupid voice actors etc. So I guess the best thing to do is just learn the language.

I prefer subtitles, I find that dubs don't usually match the character's voices.

It depends on the actual series, in my opinion. There are some series where I do prefer subtitles to the dubs and there are series where I like both just fine. Some that fall into this category for me are series like Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, and .hack//SIGN. I honestly don't mind the dubs of these series because the voice acting for the dub isn't bad.

Overall, for my watching experience, I probably have watched more subtitles than dubs, and it doesn't bother me in the least. I've grown up with reading closed captioning for big chunk of my life, due to my grandmother (who lives with us), being hearing impaired. I feel naked without having something there for me to read. I guess one could say that the practice with that for so long, makes subtitles no problem for me to read.

Whoa whoa whoa, when did everybody here become a weeaboo? I always like dubs better, they're not usually bad enough to ruin the show or movie for me. I know people are going to say dumbass comments like "You haven't seen many dubs", "You're so stupid and can't read the text", "You're such a patriot I'm sure you give Bush a blowjob", etc. I think it's pretty lame that people will actually go as far as insults just because certain people happen to prefer dubs in just about every case, and that just shows how serious these people take it.

I've yet to come across one dub I'd consider "bad" for any animé series that I like, and I'm sure anything with a dub that's really that bad has been re-done since. They all leave in the original background music (SF2 Animated Movie aside, but that made up for it in several ways), choose good voice actors that you'll actually associate with the characters (I know people are going to play the race card as soon as I say this, but frankly all Japanese people sound almost the same to me, not because I'm racist, but because I didn't grow up around the language, pardon me for that), and if they really make edits, ala Shin-Chan, they always seem to be for the better and just make the show generally more appealing to me. Trust me, I can read and write very well, in fact we had writing and reading tests in school recently, I got a perfect on the writing and missed one question on the reading. I'm also a great multi-tasker, so obviously I can focus on both the text and the video, which I know from watching Bomberman Jetters and banned episodes of Pokémon.

But never are they more enjoyable in a language other than English, all that does is make it way more complex keeping up with stuff, and if I watch the same thing in two languages, no matter what I always enjoy it in English more. So yeah, I'm sorry for those of you who are pretty much ready to rape me for saying that, particularly Drakon, but I for one enjoy watching shows in my native language, because, you know, I sorta know it. Like really well.

Bomberman: So you've never watched any series where you've watched both a dub and a sub, and preferred its sub or original to its dub or even vice-versa? I find that a bit surprising. You're one of the first whose preferred just one version.

For me, as I mentioned earlier, it just depends on the series. Some series, I find the dub/original fine and wouldn't prefer one over the other, then there are others where I prefer the dub over the sub or vice versa. Digimon Adventure/Adventure 02 comes to mind. I definitely prefer the originals over the dub, since they changed too many things, imo, for its dub, like characterization.

Now, for most stuff, I wouldn't know, because I watched it subbed or raw long before it got a license, and by the time it got brought overseas for us to see as a dub, just didn't bother watching it, since I'd already seen it in full or most of it, like say Bleach (which bored me after a while anyway and haven't gone back to it), Deathnote, Inuyasha, etc.

That's correct. I don't really like the Japanese language in general, no offense to anybody who thinks differently, but... to me it just sounds really aggressive and forceful, which is a voice they try to put into all these emotional moments and stuff... not what I'd call a Romantic language.

It depends on which animes I watch. For some, I like watching them in their original language, and for others, I prefer to watch the dub instead.
