I am the proud owner of the whole Urotsukidoji uncut series. In English they were released as:
Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend.
Urotsukidoji II: Legend of the Demon Womb.
Urotsukidoji III: Return of the Overfiend.
Urotsukidoji IV: Inferno Road.
(There was a recent retelling called The New Legend or something and a weird version from the mid-90s which also retold the story but had completely different character designs. I don't have either of these.)
In the uncut Japanese series parts one and two are broken up into five episodes if I recall correctly.
Even though the final episode of Urotsukidoji IV won some French animation award the original Legend of the Overfiend is still the best. From part III onwards the story just becomes pointless. I don't like Buju - he is supposed to be like the new version of Amano Jyaku - because his design is shit.
And there are no interesting or strong female characters except for one of Cesar's generals but she gets raped to death and melted by acid almost immediately. Even Megumi who was a really cool character just pops in to have sex with a demon made out of corpses.
Real shame the series evolved into zombie gonzo porn. It used to be a good fantasy anime.

I noticed how they suddenly declined from any kind of coherent storyline into just demon dicks squirting baby-batter all over a skull. Which is good in its own way, just not for $67.99 a box-set.

In Urotsukidoji III it shows flash backs of how Cesar became that cult leader and his daughter died. They should have shown more about that.
Have you read any of the original manga? I have a couple but I'm not a big fan of Toshio Maeda's artwork.
