I did and was able to play many Japanese games this way. Some people have tons of copies laying around. I have a few, but I liked to buy the ones I really liked.

no, because frankly i suck at doing so. i once tried to put linux on my ipod, messed up, and now from time to time it makes a click noise. just goes to show, modding stuff has its disadvantages

Not if you know what your doing. My friend fried a couple of systems before getting it down.(But he had a friend that worked at a EB so he swapped the systems for the fried ones.)

i just don't want to try it. you can crank out a psp with a custom firmware and put games and emulators on it, but if you make even the slightest mistake, the psp may stop working

I always wanted to do that... but I'd fear I'd ruin my unit if I tried to do anything tricky like that.

Every Custom Firmware has been safe to use ever since 3.80 M33 when it started downloading just like a normal update.

I didn't, but I had a friend sell me a pre-modded PSone. He also transplanted the motherboard out of a 1st gen PlayStation into my year 2000 model one so I can put my PS Hacker (a modchip that uses the parallel port) to good use.

I've owned 2 original Playstations and modded both, and I've had about 3 PS2's and only modded my very first one. Saved alot of money on PS2 games until I had to pawn it. Buy it, burn it, return it.
