As USA Networks NIGHT FLIGHT will always keep a warm place in my heart, the question must be asked: How many of you remember that other fantastic USA Network show called TALES FROM THE DARKSIDE??

It had the creepy intro with the guy speaking..."Man Lives in the sunlit world of what he believes to be Reality..................BUT..there is, Unseen by Most...an Underworld...a Place which is just as REAL...BUT NOT AS BRIGHTLY LIT....A DARK SIDE..."

    As Count Floyd would say.."OOOh Oooh..Scaaary!". :)

This is one of those TV series that will probably never find its way to DVD, but I sure wish it would....anyone know of anyplace selling bootlegs of this great spooky show from the 80's? It was followed up by the lame MONSTERS show and the not-quite-as-bad Friday The 13th: The Series show.

    ????

My friend and I both remember the creepy episode "Trick Or Treat"....that one was creepy as hell!

Where a monster taunts an old man who wont give out any candy....his son comes by and gives him some candy to give out, but he refuses...cuz he's a bitter OLD MAN! (which in TV Land means...he gon' DIE!)

And all the while you hear this deep monster voice growling.."TRICK..OR TREAT". Eventually he dies of fright I think, and when they find him he looks all gaunt and neglected, like all he had to eat was the halloween candy or something.

(yeah thats all from memory) :D

So I looked and sure enough AMAZON even sells the VHS Videos of this show. Episodes 1 through 6 you can get for cheap...even 4 or 5 bucks each. But episode 7 only has 3 shows on it, and that one is I guess "rare" or something....its $49 bucks for the VHS. ANd guess which episode is on THAT ONE.

    Yep, TRICK OR TREAT. !)$#*$*)$)%*@)(!(!*$(%$(*@.....

I wonder if any of the local VHS rental places stock these tapes....I might try calling them up to find out.

Yep, It had Debbie Harry from Blondie and I think Christian Slater in one of the episodes.

For all intents and purposes, its CREEPSHOW III.

yes trick or treat i remember that episode, it had like a goblin or something taunting the old man on halloween night. that one was really creepy!actually that episode was the shows' pilot episode, that's probably why you remember it vividly-as it was played quite a bit.

the one that really scared me though was called "seasons of belief" . the images were extremely scary ,especially the very end when the 'grither' crashes through the walls and grabs the grandparents by their heads and pulls them out! freakin scary! read on if you dare:

On Christmas Eve, a couple decide to preoccupy their restless children by telling them a fable concerning a massive, winged creature called "The Grither". The children initially balk at the story, which describes the creature as a proud, hateful beast who becomes enraged when it hears its name being spoken aloud. Although it lives at the North Pole, its humongous ears allow it to hear its name being spoken from anywhere in the world, and the parents assure the children that The Grither is well on its way to their house to kill them. The children become progressively more frightened as the story continues, eventually to the point of utter hysteria. Finally, in an effort to calm their children, the parents reveal that the story is make believe. At that moment, the huge arms of The Grither smash through the windows of the house and break the necks of the parents as the children look on in horror.

whoops my mistake, trick or treat was the pilot episode- but a different story. the one you're talking about head was called 'halloween candy'

A mean old man harboring an intense hatred for the celebration of Halloween is left alone by his son to hand out candy to the neighborhood children. The old man initially ignores the trick-or-treaters, but later cruelly fills their bags with a mixture of syrup and cleaning fluid. Satisfied, the old man retreats to his armchair to watch television, when a goblin-like creature pays him a visit. The creature relentlessly asks the old man for candy and he eventually shuts himself inside the house to avoid it. He suddenly realizes that he is unable to make phone calls as the goblin continues to stalk him from outside the house. Finally deciding to confront the creature, the old man walks out to the porch, only to discover that the goblin has vanished. He goes back into the house and looks out the window one last time. As he closes the curtain, he is confronted face-to-face by the creature inside the house, who again asks him for candy. Shocked and frightened, he falls to the floor and passes out, as the creature leaves. Days later, his son returns from work, only to find his father dead on the floor. According to the medical examiner, the old man had survived in the house for weeks on nothing but a bag of Halloween candy

"It's too late to be out trick-or-treating. Go home. Tell your mother I said you were a wicked child." - Mr. Killup

yes trick or treat is a totally different story about a guy who makes a deal with a witch..or something, check tv tome, it has an episode list of every season. chances are it's on there, there were only like 6 or 7 seasons of the show. and that was an early episode, like season 1 or 2. i'd say buy it. or at least buy 1 dvdr to see how the quality is and if it's worth buying....i dunno just my 2 cents about purchasing things from strangers on the net.

and how bout that ending tag huh?

"The Darkside is always there waiting for us to enter; waiting to enter us. Until next time, try to enjoy the daylight."

Oh, and just as an aside.......If you haven't checked out the TWILIGHT ZONE 1980's series that was recently released on DVD, its a MUST-SEE. Not necessarily as creepy as TFTDS, but it has its moments.

There are several great shorts from that show.....each one only 15 or 20 minutes long so you get like 3 per episode, there were quite a few that I remembered from back in the day. I was thrilled when this finally came out on DVD.

My friend and I both remembered the episode where the people get stuck "Between time" and the story revolves around this group of "blue men" who have to actually re-build the world every single second, it was just a neet concept.....and its included in the set. Also the guy who is convicted of a crime and becomes "Invisible".....where nobody will talk to him for an entire year, another great short.

AND ANOTHER CLASSIC SHOW INTRO.....get your funky-ass ON!!

i did'nt really dig the 80's twilight zone. i prefered the old school ones with rod sterling doing the intro's/outros.my favorite TZ ep is the one where a traveler meets moses who has captured the devil. and is holding him prisoner. the man does'nt believe him and releases him, finding out that it really was satan. so then the man vows to find satan, and does so and captures him again. then at the very end ...his maid releases him. i think it was called 'the howler' or 'howling man' or something like that. it was called that because satan would howl like a wolf all night.

I liked the 80's TZ, although not as much as Tales from the Darkside. I'm very much looking forward to the dvd release of another show along these lines, Amazing Stories.

Amazing Stories was the Steven Spielberg executive-produced one right?

I dont think I watched this one because, for some reason, I remember thinking it was going to be ET type stories over and over. Bias...whatever :)

I liked the Twilight Zone because they were weird and odd and of course the history (When that first season of the original series hits in the $50 range I'm all over it, having just gotten done buying the 3 seasons of Original Trek, I couldn't swallow another uber-expensive set right now).......I liked the Tales stores because, duh, they were horror.....good stuff.

I dont remember watching alot of Friday The 13th: The series, i thought it was kinda lame at the time. However, by todays standards, I'd tune in every night and watch it religiously.....compared to the drek we have to choose from today.

yeah after reviewing amazing stories recently- i found they were fairly boring. though there were some episodes that i really enjoyed! one episode had a teenage boy who had a meteorite crash in his room, and he ended up becoming a 'human magnet'. come to find out a girl that had a crush on him was uber uggly and had BRACES- you can assume what happened there ;)!

then there was the ww1(2?) episode with the gunner in the airplane? remember that one? with kevin costner and keiffer sutherlund! they're going to crash land, but magically cartoon wheels appear on the plane! that was a great episode!

We ought to organize a group here to buy up bootlegs on ebay and then share em out.

I wouldn't want to pay $30 or $40 bucks for all the Tales from the Darkside episoides on DVDR, but if we broke that out over 2 or 3 people it'd be cheap...everyone gets a copy.....then we could do THUNDARR THE BARBARIAN, the Superfriends ones...etc, etc.
