One of my favourite shows of all time, and thusfar seemingly lost to the ages. If it ever makes its way to DVD I'll snap it up. Not the British version, but the American version.
I've heard many people rant and rave about how the British version was much better, and often I'm inclined to prefer non-American versions of movies, shows, etc, but I saw the British Pilot for the show and it was slow, lame, lifeless, and not a patch on the American series.
Now I'll admit that in many ways the show was entirely lame, cheesy, and over-the-top. But if the right balance is struck this can give a show charm. And some of the issues that the show dealt with (corporate power, media manipulation, the perils of having our lives, money and identity "on file" are still as relevant as ever.
Incidentally I read that the character of Max Headroom was not actually made with a computer, but was Matthew Frewer with clay (or something like that) stuck on his face. Kind of Ironic that the first computer-generated character on T.V. (at least that I know of) wasn't computer generated, and these days real actors are almost obsolete in the age of computer generating everything.
Do I hear a collective cheer for this glorious show, or a groan from the people who only remember the ridiculous commercials featuring "Max Headroom"?
Benesato.
