Shawshank Redemption, for me, was perfect.

    The perfect film.

You'd have to go a long way to show me a film that stands up to this work of art. If you haven't already seen it, make sure you do soon.

Here's a link to the wikipedia entry on it:

For me, I looked at the world differently after watching this movie.

It might be cliche, but I think Citizen Kane is the most impressive movie. I'm glued to the screen whenever it comes on TV.

I don't get what's so great about it. If he was so driven and powerful, why couldn't he get an exact replica of his god damn sled made?

Did you know that character was based on Howard Hughes?

You do realize that the sled is supposed to be symbolic, right? I always took it to symbolize the love and joy from his childhood he missed out on after he'd been taken away from his family, but I'm sure you could find one or two random film student's theses arguing it means something else.

It doesn't surprise me that Howard Hughes was the basis for that character-- they're both millionaire prodigies who snapped. However, I suspect Orson Welles was too dignified to wear tissue boxes on his feet or letting his fingernails grow to grotesque lengths, so they just had him build Xanadu instead.

I think you're wrong about the interpretation.

All he really wanted was the sled.

Alright, fine. Instead of watching Citizen Kane, go watch John Waters' Pink Flamingos. Any movie where a drag queen eats dog poop is an impressive movie.
