nobody has mentioned one of my all-time favorites:

    RIVER CITY RANSOM

simply an amazing game. if you've never played it, go fire up an emulator right now.

I remember playing that game!

For some reason I couldn't get past the sewer part of the level so I never finished it. :?

I know I'm gonna get the living hell beat out of me for asking this but, was it a game for the Nes or Snes that had the infamous quote "All your base are belong to us."?

It was the game Zero Wing. The line was a result of a piss poor Japanese to English translation.

Double Dragon II: The Revenge was my favourite. I was so good at that game, I could get all the way to the shadow boss without losing a single life. Beating the shadow boss without dying was a challenge though, but it was do-able :D

Mike Tyson's Punch-Out was a good one also. I'll never forget the day I knocked out Tyson in the first round. Somehow, I got a star on him, and waited for the right moment to use it. He went down like a sack of bricks
