Choose Your Own Adventure.....Oh trust me, I will....

Deleted 8 years 4 months ago Posts: 54340	As a kid I remember being very fond of(and I'm sure many of you do as well) the 'Choose Your Own Adventure' books. For once you didn't have to follow some boring story line that the author chose for you to lag through. I was allowed to take my own actions to stay alive, save others, and be a hero.....or flip back to the prior page when I made the wrong decision(yes I cheated, eat it). I had too many favorites to list but ones that I vaguely remember were the one about being a ninja, and another about space vampires (I think). I also remember another book series I enjoyed reading called 'Soup'(not for the soul, or any heartfelt bs like that). I am talking about the stories about the young hillbilly kid that went around terrorizing his town much to the delight of his young readers. So if you have a favorite 'CYOA', 'Soup', or any other book and/or series you enjoyed reading, please take the time to reflect. I love to hear back.

Deleted 8 years 4 months ago Posts: 54340	Yeah yeah! Choose Your Own Adventure books! I had tons of those...loved 'em. But my mom sold those....as she did my GI Joes, Transformers, Star Wars, etc, etc....in garage sales over the years. I remember one book that had a possible ending that just says "Oh no! The candy turns you into a furry turtle. Too bad!" And there's a picture of a fat little furry turtle with glasses...it was rediculous. So rediculous that, in high school, I made stickers of that page and gave them out to random people. No one ever knew what to make of it...or me for handing them out. But yeah, I prob'ly had 30 or so of those books. They were just about the only thing I'd read as a kid.

"Pillars of Pentagarn" (I can't believe I still remember the titles), "Revenge of the Rainbow Dragons" and "Dungeons Of Dread". They (Endless Quest series) were the most "serious" and mature of the multiple path books.

I always ended up dying though... my favorite death was opening a door that led into space (I was in a space station) and it said, "There was only one man lost forever in the vastness of space, a Russian Cosmonaut... and now there is you." AHHHHHHHHHH!! I also have G.I. Joe "choose your own adventure" books, which was pretty fun as well. They're actually sitting on my bookshelf right now. There's no way I'm getting rid of them.

Deleted 8 years 4 months ago Posts: 54340	I remember those books - I used to find them in charity shops and car boot (yard) sales the only book I really remember was one where it was a girl and her friend went to ride their bikes in the forest and one of them (you, I think it was written so you were the character) fell off and hurt themselves falling off their bike with a sprained ankle and you had to decide what to do and how to get out. If you did things a certain way, you ended up lost or another way you got home and got help or something... I also vageuly remember one to do with fighting a dragon...I might be wrong about that though lol...

My favourite one was about going to South America as an archeologist and being chased by mummies, but i don't rememebr what its called. I can also remember the one about the space vampires. I'm gonna pose another ? on the subject of books though. Does anyone remember books where the main character is called T.R. Bear? The first book in the series is called [u]T.R. Bear[/u], and it goes on from there with different adventures. I remember reading one called [u]T.R.Bear goes to New York[/u], or something like that. The main character was a monacle wearing teddy bear who was named after the american president Theodore Roosevelt (please tell me i don't have to go through the whole story of where teddy bears came from?! ). In the books toys can talk, much like in Toy Story, but the bears owner knows the T.R.Bear can speak (and i think he knows about the other toys as well) and they go on adventures. Any ideas, or is it just something i imagined in my deluded fever addled little brain? tee hee hee

Deleted 8 years 4 months ago Posts: 54340	'choose ur own adventure books?!' i practically learned to read because of them! man, they were (maybe still are) my most favorite sci-fi- adventure books! the cool thing was that my public library AND elementary library (together) had the whole series. so, thats how i got deemed a nerd cuz i spent all my time in the library.

Besides the original CYOA, I have a bunch of TSR's Endless Quest, even an odd Super Endless Quest, Ad&d adventures, zork, narnia, middle earth quest, steve jackson's fighting fantasy, lonewolf, twist-a-plot, and others. R.L. stine did some tricky (pre-goosebumps) ones like "The Badlands of Hark". Anyone remember Micro-adventures? Sort of like cyoa, but included pages of BASIC computer programming for you to use on your own computer to help solve the puzzles of the main character.

He loves to read so those books keep him going more than just reading the book once and he's done. Now, he can reread them and get a different ending each time. They were alot of fun!

Others I really liked were the two Animorph ones, and this one for the book series "The Three Investigators" I loved the Three Investigators growing up, and I was so excited to find a book where -I- went on an adventure with them! (Note to self: Track down the Three Investigator books) Here's a question for all of you. Who DIDN'T actually cheat by going back to where you made a bad choice? I mean really, who sat there ane re-read EVERYTHING up to that point again?

A few books in that series were written by Steve Perry (who wrote Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire and the Aliens vs Predator comics), and illustrated by Steve Leialoha (a comics legend). I also have an Indiana Jones "Find-Your-Fate" book (at least I think that's what the series was called) by- you guessed it- R.L. Stine.

I've been searching for years, but to no avail. I really miss those books. If someone could give me a heads up on where to get my filthy paws on some of the old CYOA books, I would be extremely greatful!!!!
