Show was about aliens who were visiting the Earth and kidnapping humans. An organization called SHADO was formed to defend us from them. SHADO had several lines of defense. Missiles could be launched from a base on the Moon. High altitude aircraft could attack after being launched from submarines. There were also a fleet of armored vehicles spread out all over the planet. The episodes typically involved attempted alien attacks and how Earth defenses stopped them. The show tane a years break in after the first series in 1970 then made a come back in 1973 but was stoped after just 5 episodes into the second series.

This is the coolest show Friday nights at 7:30 great to see the itro again!

You know, it's funny, but I actually remember watching this show as a kid when it was syndicated for US TV. And the one and best reason I tuned in to it was the theme song. It sounded so cool. Still does to this day! By now, I imagine, some hot shot DJ is making his own D'n'B remix of it.

I also watched this in syndicated rerun in the early 70's here in America. I used to love that car that Straker rode around in. Funny thing was, the show was set in 1980. Looking back on the 80's some of the fashion statements in UFO were sort of a warning for what was to happen to fashion in the real 80's! Some odd parallells to "Space 1999" abound with regards to FX and design, but I think Gerry and Sylvia Anderson created that show too
