Pee-Wee's Playhouse

Show Summary

Aired: 1986 - 1990
Show Type: Live Action
Country of Origin: US

Pee-Wee Herman invites his audience friends to come play in his magical house with talking furniture, flying bicycles and occasional whacky guests. In case you did not know, Cyndi Lauper sings the theme song! Think Mr. Rogers with a zanier, more entertaining host and more colorful, more animated house features. Pee-Wee's Playhouse was the top rated children's show enjoyed by children and teens alike until it was abruptly cancelled due to Paul Reuben's arrest for public indecency.

After the show's sudden cancellation, the original episodes were shown on the Fox Family (now known as ABC Family) channel from 1996-1999 as part of the Basement, a collection of cartoons and live-action shows that originated in the 1980's. In July of 2006, Pee-Wee's Playhouse has been showing on Cartoon Network's [adult swim] block of late-night programming. Currently the show has been playing at two different times: 12 a.m. and 3 a.m.

Hi guys!

I know this sounds square, but please reframe from cursing. I feel you can get your point across without such words. These shows were from back in the day when life was easy and care free. Thank you!

I hate this guy I heard his Jewish or something but this guy is known for thrash talking every single celebrity women he ever work with. That's why a lot of people hated him since I was a kid I thought his an okay guy but I would have known otherwise.

I like how the anti-pee wee posts all refer to him being a 'perv'... hate to break the news to you all, but pee wee is a character. I agree, I don't care what Paul Reubens has done. It stinks that the show suffered for his 'crime'. Even to this day, the whole report still sounds like he was setup. But what's done is done....

Anyway, the show was awesome. Pee wee was great b/c kids had fun, and I remembered a lot of 'grown ups' watched it with us kids. NOW, I know why, as Edymnion pointed out.... there were a lot of sexual undertones and references. As a kid you have no idea. Like my buddy got the first season of the Dukes of Hazard. After the first few episodes, we were amazed at all the sexual inneuendos. I think it was so popular b/c it was able to connect to multiple levels of audiences.

Cheers to P.W.!!!

One show I would watch constantly. I'd rent a copy everytime I went to the video store. I do have a few copys of the show on VHS, but now I have it on DVD and the Christmas Special as well. And to be perfectly honest here... I've always admired the claymation opening of the show (since I am a claymation buff).
