Detective Conan/Case Closed

Show Summary

Aired: 1996 - 2004
Show Type: Animated
Country of Origin: JAPAN

Shinichi/Jimmy Kudo is a seventeen year-old high school detective whom people call the "Modern Sherlock Holmes." However, one night after a date with his childhood sweetheart, Ran/Rachel, Shinichi/Jimmy witnessed an illegal trade and, caught off his guard, was knocked unconscious and fed a drug that was supposed to kill him... but he woke up and found himself shrunken to a seven year-old. In order to track down the men who did this to him, Shinichi/Jimmy hid his identity and lived with Ran/Rachel, whose father happened to be a hopeless detective, and with that came a series of murders and mysteries that he must solve.

Detective Conan is a famous anime in Japan which has hundreds of episodes but little development towards the plot regarding Shinichi Kudo/Conan Edogawa. Its suppose to be that you'll get caught in the various mysteries you won't care if Conan ever becomes his old self again. Apparently it worked perfectly in Japan as its still going on even today.

But why is 2004 on the end year you ask? Thats for its US release on Cartoon Network on Adult Swim. You see the concept worked perfectly in Japan but unfortunately it did not work at all in the US. While it did drive a bit mroe of the fanbase in the states. The idea of hundreds of episodes with mostly filler turned off with little ploit development was unappealing to a good amount of AS' viewers. Though its English dub by FUNimation had mixed reactions. Some enjoyed it just fine while others were kinda displeased with it. (Despite that most of the alterations were requested by TMS productions, the very folks behind the show itself. Though to be fair the only really bad name change is calling Mt. Fuji as Mt. Finch. And I've seen dubs do far worse.)

Overall its an acquired taste that might require some to take it in small doses. But it still does have good mysteries nevertheless...

I love this show. In my country it was taken off the air too soon, thankfully I recorded many episodes, but I'd love to watch more.

This used to come on Cartoon Network for a short period of time. Too bad they removed it so soon. The music in the Italian intro is pretty boss.
