The Battletoads gained fame in their 1991 Nintendo game. The game featured pretty decent graphics for the time, and an insane difficulty level that made you want throw the controller at the TV. The cartoon, which came out shortly after the game, serves as a prequel and looks into how the toads became who they are today. The Battletoads cartoon was a holiday special made to promote the video game for Christmas, and to kind of get a feel for if there was a demand for the train wreck of a cartoon. I think it was to all of our benefit that there was not and only a single episode was ever produced. The cartoon only really served to expose the whole Battletoads thing for what it really was... A really, really, blatant Ninja Turtles rip off, except for this cartoon was neither funny or cool in any way.

This show WAS to be a great cartoon series! I don't think it could have been a copy of TMNT, because it's based on a game and not a comic book. And also, the animation is very cartoonish and funny; almost a lot like "The Super Mario Bros. Super Show" and/or "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog".

Well I don't know if they are rip-offs of Ninja Turtles I mean the Turtles do Ninjitsu stuff and the Battletoads grow weapons out of their hands and use those. Also there's 3 Battletoads, and there's 4 Ninja Turtles. Also the toads don't wear bandanas around them. Another thing is that the Battletoads were originally humans, the turtles were originally just regular turtles but some kid accidentally tripped over and the turtles fell in the sewer. I like both the ninja turtles and Battletoads. Its like Mac and PC to me: Both are equal, none is better than the other. I think the Battletoads cartoon series would have turned out great had they got a second chance, they just had to get rid of that lingo they used and I'm sure it would have been great!
