Pro Stars

Show Summary

Aired: 1991 - 1992
Show Type: Animated
Country of Origin: US

Originally intended to air on ESPN, the show centers on Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson and Wayne Gretzky fighting crime and helping children, often protecting the environment as well. These three were chosen to represent the pinnacle of all four major American professional sports in the early 1990s. While Jordan and Gretzky are widely considered to be the best to ever play their respective sports, it is accepted that Jackson was included since he could represent both football and baseball and was a high-profile celebrity off the field as well. A reference to his highly popular "Bo Knows" Nike ad-campaign was worked into almost every episode. Bo Jackson was a star player, but not analogous to Gretzky or Jordan.

Ah, Pro Stars. In the early 90's I was really into basketball and the NBA. I remember watching this show and thinking it was pretty cool. But when I look at it now I have to laugh a little. Four pro sports guys living a Ghostbusters-like existence fighting crime?? Umm...okay. Ha ha! Still though, it was fun back then even if it didn't last long. Where the heck DID Bo Jackson ever go anyway??

I wish that we could erase all of the cartoons of today and let our kids watch the cartoons we grew up on because these were the best cartoons to air on tv. I remember waking up every morning before school and was able to watch cartoons before I leave and than come home from school and wake up on saturday and sunday morning!!
