Speed Racer started out in japan as a comic book charecter named "Mach Go Go." Wanting to break into an international market, the name was changed to Speed Racer. First premiering in 1967, the cartoon, about a boy and his race car the Mach 5, was an instant hit with young audiences. Thirty years later the cartoon series has returned to television and is once again a hit with kids.

i have to admit, i like the original speed racer, but the animation is so goofy at times =/ . but whatever you do, avoid the new speed racer cartoon on the nicktoons channel. it's pure dookie

I loved the Speed Racer cartoon when I was a boy. I don't see what's so hard to understand about a boy loving a race car driver
