In this educational program originally shown on PBS, astrophysicist Carl Sagan attempted to explain and popularize scientific concepts ranging from biological chemistry to the effects of time dilation. Cosmos featured dramatizations of significant events in the history of science, such as the life of Johannes Kepler. It was also groundbreaking in its use of miniature models made to look like environments, which they would superimpose video footage of Carl Sagan on top of. This created the effect that he was walking around in them.
