Far Out Space Nuts

Show Summary

Aired: 1975 - 1975
Show Type: Live Action
Country of Origin: US

Barney (Chuck McCann) and Junior (Bob Denver), two NASA employees, were loading supplies on a spaceship when Junior mistakenly hit the launch button (Barney had said "lunch, not launch"). The spaceship sent them to a distant planet where they encountered Honk, a furry creature with a horn on the top of his head they called Honk (Patty Maloney). They spent most of the season trying to avoid the various creatures/aliens they encountered while they tried to get home. In the final episode, Barney and Junior gained access to time machine-like device that took them back to the spaceship, right before Junior hit launch. Missing their friend Honk, Barney and Junior repeat the launch and start their adventures all over again. Only 16 episodes were made. Although very campy, it was a fun show. Several big-name actors, Like John Carradine, played monsters.

Originally,McCann collaborated on "Far Out Space Nuts"with Earle Doud

as a Bob Hope/Bing Crosby tv version of"The Road To Outer Space".

The leading roles were written for two other actors..Fred Silverman

(Then the executive vice president of CBS TV's Daytime Programming)and

The Kroft Brothers wanted to change the format for a child audience and

have the leads played by Denver and McCann as two Laurel & Hardy like

bumblers.
