Adventures in Wonderland

Show Summary

Aired: 1991 - 1995
Show Type: Live Action
Country of Origin: US

A live-action tv series that aired on the original Disney Channel. Alice is a young girl who can travel through her mirror to Wonderlad, where she befriends a variety of characters: The Red Queen, the roller-skating White Rabbit, two rapping brothers Tweedle Dee and Dum, The Mad Hatter, March Hare, Dormouse, Cheshire Cat, Caterpillar, and the occasional visitors, the Walrus and the Duchess.

Usually, each episode consisted of Alice coming home from school and talking to her cat, Dinah, about a problem she's facing. She would go to Wonderland and find the residents with a similar crisis. By the end of the episode, the problem would be resolved and Alice would return home with a solution to her problem.

Each episode had many fun songs and a lot of fun jokes that kept the show on the air for four seasons (100 epsiodes!)

It wasn't my favorite show (even though I loved the movie) but I do remember it. It came on after I usually left for school, so if there was nothing on when I had to stay home I would watch it.

This show was nothing like the original books or the animated movie, and for God's sake, I APPLAUD it for that. If every interpretation was similar, we would have a very boring world, so I advise people that try to shoot down the show to come up with a better reason than that it was "different". You also have to keep in mind that it's supposed to be a children's series. Of course it will be lighter, and of course all of what makes Alice in Wonderland exciting for adults isn't going to make the cut. Different is different. Not bad, or "gay".

I for one found it awesome that the Rabbit had roller blades. He was very skilled on them and after a while, you start not being able to imagine him any differently. It made the choreography interesting. This show also appears to be one of very few to add depth to characters like the March Hare. I fell in love with him for his quirkiness, and instead of being the Mad Hatter's second fiddle, he was just as strong in the partnership, which made for quite an adorable one that was exciting to watch evolve.

If you give the show a chance, the "what is this fuckery" will ware off and you'll see that it has a very capable, talented cast and a level of three-dimensionality hard to find in children's television. And that's my two cents.
