In Japan, it's called UFO Robo Grendizer and it originally aired from 1974 to 1975. Duke Freed (pilot of Grendizer), piloted the robot to protect the Earth from the Vegans. In Italy, the show is called Atlas Ufo Robot Goldrake and in France, it's called Goldorak.

This is one of the good shows with Voltes Five, Daimos, and Mazinger Z. I hope they come out in DVD that is US dubbed.
