Aired: 1996 - 1997 Show Type: Animated Country of Origin: JAPAN
Sci-fi channal aired this anime block on saturday mornings.
The tagline was "for those who outgrew saturday morning cartoon".
The prime audience for people who enjoyed Saturday Anime had insomnia, people just getting off of work and people who thought it would be worth it to stay up late to watch the new animes they were showing. It featured many now popular animes such as Ninja Scroll(of course they edited the sex scenes), Robot Carnival which was a brilliant movie, Mars War which was like an anime version of madmax but on one wheeled motorcycles, Lily Cat which was like an anime version of Aliens(the one with Sigourney Weaver) and of course, Akira which does not need any backing up for how awesome it is. I personally think that they made a wise move to bring it back on air, however, they changed the name to Mon-Anime. They show it around 11P.M PST and they show a series set now. So far they're showing Street Fighter Alpha The Series and sometimes some Anime movies. Sci-Fi channel was one of many platforms for the anime scene in America. Even if it was at the butt crack of dawn.

...by the way, in case you're wondering, I was (sometimes am) a bad insomniac and that how I chanced upon Saturday anime. I was watching Vampire Hunter D, the first one, and I was captivated like crazy. :)
