When young Gene wishes for a friend, his wish is granted and into his family's life falls witch Winnie Goodwin. Taking on the job of housekeeper, Winnie charms the Harper family at her every task. The catch is that while the kids know that she's a witch, divorced dad T.J. doesn't.

I've never heard of this show. Alyson Hannigan from American Pie movies makes what looks like her debut. Not positive though.

This was an attempt at a modern day Bewitched, or rather I Dream of Genie since that's more similar, I suppose. I liked it.

I used to watch this show as a kid, and then I watched Buffy when I got older. Funny though - I never remembered Allyson Hannigan being on the show. And I could have sword this show premiered around 1987, not 1989. I was thinking it came on back to back with a show called The Charmings, but I guess my memory is inaccurate.

No, "The Charmings" had been canceled over a year before "Free Spirit" debuted. Easy to see how one could relate them though, since they both had an indelible '80s quality and both featured a witch.
