Out of the Blue

Show Summary

Aired: 1979 - 1979
Show Type: Live Action
Country of Origin: US

Often thought to be a "Happy Days" spin-off, which it was, this series featured an Angel named Random (Jimmy Brogan) who came to Earth to help an aunt (Dixie Carter, "Designing Women") deal with the gaggle of nieces and nephews she got stuck with after their parents died. Eileen Heckart ("The Bad Seed," "Butterflies Are Free," "The 5 Mrs Buchanans") played Random's boss, and the oldest boy was Clark Brandon (fondly remembered as Nancy McKeon's boyfriend on "The Facts of Life"). A spin-off is designated as any show that premieres with a character that has been introduced, at least once, on another show prior. Random was introduced on an episode of Happy Days just a couple of weeks prior to Out Of The Blues debut. This officiall;y makes it a spin-off of Happy Days.

Ouf Of The Blue was an official Happy Days spin-off because the character appeared prior to the debut of OOTB. This is why Mork appeared on the pilot episode. If I recall right, Random was in an episode where Fonzie was dreaming and something about the Devil.

I saw Jimmy Brogan at a comedy club here in Houston Feb '07, and he was just the opening act. Sad really that he never went anywhere, becouse he was pretty funny.

Last I heard, Jimmy Brogan was the entertainment coordinator for The Tonight Show.
