Show Summary

Aired: 1984 - 1990

Charles in Charge was the story of Charles, a 19 year old college student, that went to work as a male nanny watching a working couples three children. Charles in Charge first aired in 1984 and was cancelled in 1985 and starred Scott Baio of Happy days and Joanie Loves Chachi fame. The show returned in 1987 and ran until 1990, this time with a different cast playing the Powell family, who had moved in when the previous family, the Pembrokes, moved out.
The first family, the Pembrokes, had a father and mother, and three kids, the oldest of whom was the daughter Lila. Douglas was the middle child, known for his eccentric behavior and love of science. And the youngest was the mischievous Jason. Charles' best friend was his collegemate Buddy - played by Willie Aames. The ultra-beautiful Gwendolyn Pierce - played by Jennifer Runyon - was often one of Charles' desirables.

I believe another reason for the switch in families is that the Pembrokes just didn't work. When I watch any of the first Season episodes, Mr. & Mrs. Pembroke is always in the house! How can Charles be in charge (pardon the pun) when the both parents are present???

The creator & producers made the right move by having Mr. Powell be away at sea with the Navy while Mrs. Powell is off on traveling assignments most of the time. With the Powell parents being absentee, then the show I felt lived up to its name. The success of Season 2 onward bears that out.

One of the best '80's shows.. I was so young when this started. Lol, I remember watching this as a toddler drinking my bottle in the kitchen while my mom cooked. Good times, utter good times, oh how I miss those good times and shows like this....
