Stan Freberg

Biography

comedian, musician, radio and TV personality


Born In Anaheim,Cal. in the summer of

1926.


Stanley Victor Freberg..Began his show biz career

as a comedy asistant for his uncle..

a not too successful comedy magician.


During his high school years..Mr.Freberg formed

a band.

The band performed at many local functions and

Freberg left for Hollywood,Cal.to find an agent in

the hopes that he could get better bookings for his

troop.


The bookings never came but..The talent agents

did hire Freberg to work as a performer on radio shows.


He appeared on many shows..including the one featuring

his idiol:Jack Benny.


Freberg also did voice overs for many movie cartoons for

Warner Brothers "Looney Tunes" and Walt Disney.


In the early 1950's..Freberg would join forces with fellow

cartoon voice over performer:Daws Butler and former Warner

Brothers animator:Bob Clampet to create and produce the classic

tv puppet show"Time For Beany!".


Together the trio create and manipulated and voice the

puppets.


They also wrote the scripts.


The series went onto become a hit and won many

admirers..including Lionel Barrymore,Dr.Albert Einstein

and Groucho Marx.


Freberg also wrote,produced and hosted his own

comedy series on CBS Radio and later a successful series

of tv comedy specials.


He also wrote,produced and performed many comedy

recordings for Capitol Records.


He continued to do voice overs for cartoons..until

the 1970's.


Where Mr.Freberg left acting to create and produce

radio and tv commercials.


In the 1980's..he would write his memiors"It Hurts

Only When I Laugh!" and he appeared on two tv tributes to

KTLA TV Ch.5 in L.A,Cal. in 1987 and 1997.

In the late 1990's..Mr.Freberg would make his last on

camera tv appearances on one of CBS TV's last fun kids

tv shows"The Weird Al Show".


Despite the talents of both Mr.Freberg and Mr.Yankovic..

"The Weird Al Show"was not a hit and after airing for one

season.

The heads of CBS TV dropped all of their fun kids tv shows

..in favor of creating and producing a saturday morning edition

of"The CBS Early Show".
