Bob Saget

Biography

Raised in Philadelphia, Pa., Norfolk, Va. and Encino, Ca., Saget began his career writing and performing stand-up comedy for two decades. In addition to stand-up gigs at The Comedy Store and The Improv, he toured with top musical acts, performing in such venues as Carnegie Hall and the main showrooms of Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Atlantic City.

One of Saget's first acting jobs was co-starring in the Richard Pryor film Critical Condition, directed by Michael Apted. Since then, he has logged an impressive number of appearances on The Tonight Show, The Late Show with David Letterman and The Larry Sanders Show, has hosted Saturday Night Live and performed on HBO's homeless effort Comic Relief.

In 1989, Saget set a precedent as the first person to simultaneously star in two primetime series: as the widowed father of three daughters in the eight-season run of Full House and as the host of America's Funniest Home Videos. Both shows often concurrently placed in the top ten and are still popular in worldwide syndication.
Also interested in the work behind the camera, Saget began making eight-millimeter movies from age 9 through graduation from Temple University's film school. He directed and executive-produced the acclaimed television movie For Hope, which was loosely based on the life of his sister, Gay, who died in 1994 from the auto-immune disease scleroderma.

He has also directed the E! movie Becoming Dick, Jitters for Lifetime Television, and made his motion picture directorial debut with Dirty Work, starring Norm Macdonald. Additionally, Saget executive-produced and starred in the television movie Father and Scout; wrote, directed and starred in the HBO special In the Dream State; and most recently directed an episode of the new HBO series Mind of the Married Man.

Saget was recently honored by Harvard University and inducted as an honorary member of the Harvard Lampoon. He is also on the board of directors of the Starlight Foundation and very involved in the Scleroderma Research Foundation based in Santa Barbara.
