While vacationing in Greece..a middle age businesswoman
and mother of a teenage girl..
Meets a handsome young man named"Peter Latham"(played
by Edward Albert).
The lady"Ann Stanley"(Played by Liv Ullman)is embarressed
by this young fellow's amrous feelings towards her and she tries
to dissuade him.
"Mr.Latham's"feelings for "Ms.Stanley"will not be detered..
He follows her back to the USA.
Where he tries to gain her affections and he succeeds..
despite the objections of her daughter"Trina"(played by
Ms.Deborah Raffin),her mother(played by Ms.Binnie Barnes in
her last movie role)and her ex husband"Mr.Billy Boylan"(Mr.Gene
Kelly).
"40 Carats"was based upon a Broadway play and the
role of "Ann Stanley"for the movie version was originally
offered to actress and dancer:Audrey Hepburn.
When Ms.Hepburn turned down the part..it was
offered to other actresses..until Ms.Ulllman accepted
the part.
"40 Carats"marked the film debut of Ms.Deborah
Raffin.
