Released: 1971 This revision of Mr.Jules Verne's"20,000 Leagues Under The Sea"
..tells the story of some survivors of a shipwreck during the 1870's.
The castaways are rescued by "Capt.Nemo"(played by Robert Ryan
in one of his last movie roles).
Despite his efforts to save these people.."Capt.Nemo"is not
a caring or gracious person..in fact.
He is unwary of saving people from the surface world..
because..he sees mankind as abusive and selfish individuals
and he has left the mainland to create and maintain his own
underwater city.
After seeing to their needs..The captain gives the survivors
their choice..remain citizens of his underwater relem"Templemir"..
or be thrown back into the ocean and die.
Three of the survivors"Mrs.Helena Becket"(Played by Nanette Newman)
and her son"Philip"(Christopher Hartstone) and their cat:"Timothy" are willing to stay in"Templemir".
But?
Four of the other survivors:"Mr.Lomax"(Allen Cuthbertson),"Barnaby(Bill Frasier) & Swallow(Kenneth Connor) Bath"
and "New York State Sen.Robert Fraiser"(played by Chuck Connors)
donot wish to remain in this shangrela..no matter how perfect it
may seem.
And they plot to escape the city.
In the end.."Barnaby Bath" and "Mr.Lomax"are killed in their
attemps to escape..but.."Sen.Frasier" and"Swallow Bath"finally
manage to return to the mainland.
