The Little Mermaid - Based on Hans Christian Andersen's Classic Tale

Movie Summary

Released: 1976
Not exactly the kind of movie Disney would've commissioned to be made. This version is based more on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Anderson with a few minor changes. Marina is a young mermaid who is fascinated by the human world and one night saves a prince when his ship sinks in a terrible storm. She falls in love with him and goes to the sea witch who gives her a potion to turn Marina into a human but in turn takes away her voice. She is told if she fails to marry the prince, she will die and dissolve into sea foam. Unfortunately, she does fail but is given a second chance at life if she kills the prince and becomes a mermaid again. But she is unable to carry it out and accepts her fate. Not recommended for small children due to nudity on the mermaids' part and dramatic ending.

yeah it shocked me to, but then again i cried at the end of the Disney one when i was five.
i would still tell this version to my future kids its a classic.

I loved this version but there was another movie wheere the characters looked like sailor moon people but it was soooo good. They have it on You Tube under Marina The little Mermaid but they have songs recored over it and then the version is in french. soo.. I guess I am going to aks my grandma about it. hahaha

Ah yes, the real little mermaid. Much better then the Disney, IMO. This one is based on the book by Hans Christian Anderson and is the way it ends in the story. Not really something for children to watch, but sure loved it as a kid and had my mom rent it over and over again.

I liked this version of Little Mermaid. I liked how it didn't end happily like the Disney one. I've been trying to find it online so I could download it. >.<

This was just as good as the disney version
