Struggling singer Victoria Grant (Julie Andrews) and her new friend, a nightclub entertainer named Toddy (Robert Preston), hatch a plan to make Victoria a show-biz success. She becomes a male female impersonator named Victor Grezhinski and ends up becoming a success in Paris. A gangster from Chicago named King Marchand (James Garner) almost throws everything into disarray, but things end up working out in their own unique way.
