Movie Summary

Released: 1997
Fighters compete in an ancient tournament that decides the fate of the Earth in an attempt to save it from mass destruction. Based on one of the most popular fighting games which was made famous for its use of digitized actors.

The movie saw characters from the popular arcade game fight it out, and also displaying some of their "special moves" (keep an eye out for Johnny Cage's shadow kick and Sub Zero's ice attacks). As a movie adaptation of a video game, it rocks...much better than the Street Fighter effort.

This movie was followed up by Mortal Kombat: Annihilation which follows on directly from the end of the first movie.

Probably the only decent video game-movie adaptation. Although I would've hoped for more gruesome deaths like in the game, it was really more about the story, and the movie stays pretty true to the game's story (yes, it has one, a good one at that).
