Blade Runner

Movie Summary

Released: 1982
In 2019 Los Angeles, the streets are overcrowded and the sun never shines. Opportunities to move to off-world colonies are advertised on blimps that fly through the depressing skies. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, several workers have come to Earth and things are going to get rough. These workers are called Replicants. They live a lifespan of 4 years and then they are executed by authority figures called Blade Runners. Disgraced Blade Runner Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) is called back into action in order to stop them. This leads to many crises, from issues of romance to questions of self.

While the critics thought it was decent, this movie was a box-office disappointment back in 1982. Over the course of the past 25 years, the movie has gained acclaim for both its' substance and style, much of the praise being spurred on by a 1992 recut of the movie. A cult classic throughout the years, the movie gained genuine classic status when it was recognized by the AFI as one of the 100 Greatest Movies Of All Time on their 2007 list "AFI's 100 Years, 100 Movies: 10th Anniversary Edition", and in 2008, the AFI named this movie as one of the 10 greatest sci-fi movies of all time on their special "AFI's 10 Top 10".

The movie was re-released on DVD in 2007 with several different sets, each one containing the 2007 "Final Cut" and an extensive documentary entitled "Dangerous Days". A 4-Disc set features 3 more cuts of the movie, as well as extensive featurettes and media galleries, as well as a collection of deleted scenes so vast that it seems like another version of the movie. The limited-edition 5-Disc release features all 4 discs as well as the 1992 Director's Cut on a 5th disc.

I gotta see this movie! More so as this is in the wake of Ridley Scott's previous film, Alien.

borkumriff said it. Best. Sci fi. Movie. Ever. Best cast, best story, best acting, best music (those keyboards during the opening scene and when Dekkard is flying to the Tyrell corp with Gaff. Pure Bliss!!) best ending of all time. This movie has a heart, it has meaning, and it asks the most important question of all: What does it mean to be human? Brilliantly concieved and executed (although it's ONLY weakness is poor editing). It was 30 years ahead of it's time and influenced so many games and movies: Perfect Dark, Fear Effect, The Matrix, Timesplitters etc.
