Released: 1939
The story recalls the lives of"Scarlett O'Hara"(played
by Vivian Leigh).A spoiled and vindictive southern belle.
Who wants to marry"Ashley Wilkes"(played by Leslie Howard)
..but he is enaged to"Melenie".
And "Rhett Butler"(played by Clark Gable)a handsome
rascal..who loves "Scarlett"..but he finds it difficult to
compete with "Mr.Wilkes"for her affections.
The pair try to deal with their estranged relationship
before,during and after the war between the states.
Based upon Ms.Margret Mitchell's best selling novel..
"Gone With The Wind"took a long time for independent
movie producer David O Selznick to obtain the movie rights
to the story.
It took him and several scriptwriters and directors
George Cukor and Victor Fleming even longer to complete
the screenplay and film the movie to Mr.Selxnick's unrealistic
specfications.
The movie also featured performances by Butterfly
McQueen as"Prissy",Victor Jory as an abusive and crooked
"Carpet bagger",Eddie Anderson(Who played One of Mr.Jack
Benny's foils on "The Jack Benny Radio and TV Shows)as"Uncle
Peter The slave",Thomas Mitchell as"Mr.O'Hara".."Scarlett's
father"and Hattie McDaniel..in her Oscar winning role of
"Mammy The Slave".
The film also marked the movie debut of Actor/singer/
songwriter/musician and director:George Reeves as one of
the "Tarelton"Brothers(The other "Tarelton"brother was played
by actor turned L.A.,Cal. radio DJ and interviewer:Fred Crane).
Mr.Reeves would appear in other movies..but he would find
greater imortality on the small screen as"Superman".
