Street Fighter Alpha

Movie Summary

Released: 1999
Streetfighter Ryu is destined for a journey of self-discovery. If victorious, he'll be able to control the dark energy threatening to consume him, but there's a problem—Ryu's confidence level isn't what it used to be. Tensions mount as Ryu, along with his allies (some old, some new), presses forward in his efforts to confront Akuma, the bloodthirsty master of the Dark Hadou. United, Ryu's team does what they can to curtail the force that threatens to destroy them all. Street Fighter Alpha is based on the popular Street Fighter II: V series.

I've always felt that this movie was so under rated. Before I eventually purchased the DVD, as a huge fan of street fighter, I had already read tons of reviews. Not a single positive one. All the critics claimed it was garbage and not in the same league as the previous animated movie by Manga Entertainment, Street Fighter II.
Boy was I surprised when the credits kicked in at the end and I found myself loving this movie and suddenly it seemed like Street Fighter II was the one below Alpha's level.
This is just a comment and not a review so I wont go indepth, but I will say that my favourite thing about the movie was the score. It was just brilliantly done and sometimes it felt like the movie wasn't worthy of such an amazing orchestrated soundtrack. I wish I could get my hands on the CD... but alas, it eludes me. I have a feeling it always will.
If you get a chance to check it out, watch it as least biased as possible, pay no attention to any critics (I never do anyway) and just try to apreciate it for what it is. An animated, two parter tv show based on a BEAT'EM UP video game.

I highly enjoyed Alpha as well. Yeah, the reviews on for the movie sucked, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out otherwise.
