Hey, let's all praise Alex Kidd! The only reason Sonic The Hedgehog was made is because Sega wanted a game that could sell more than a million copies and they wanted to replace Alex Kidd as their mascot.
The Genesis was the only top selling Sega System. The other failures were the Master System, the 32X, the Sega CD, The Game Gear, the Saturn and the Dreamcast.
The Saturn was a hit in Japan. The Master System was a hit in Europe and Brazil. The Genesis was called the MegaDrive outside North America.
