The Moxy & Flea Show By: rksexy2finger
Article Score: 0

It could be considered Cartoon Network's first original program since the network's creation in 1992. The Moxy Pirate Show started out in 1994, when Cartoon Network was airing many of the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons as a bulk of it's programming. To breathe life back into the old animation, they created a 3-D cartoon dog, voiced by comedian Bobcat Goldthwait, to add humorous segments between the cartoons. The show premiered as 60 minute format, bringing Moxy in random situations. To join him, he had a sidekick, Flea, voiced by famous illusionist Penn Jillette (of Penn and Teller fame). From wacky jokes, to Moxy's crush on Josie and the Pussycats, the series was whimsical mesh of retro pop culture and comedy.

The show carried on for another year into 1995, and was renamed "The Moxy Show". This incarnation led the way to 1998, when Flea became a title star and the show was renamed "The Moxy and Flea Show". Unfortunately, Cartoon Network decided to shorten the program to a mere half hour, after the development of their own cartoon series. The shorted version of "Moxy" severely cut down on the 3-D animation portions of the show.

The Moxy and Flea Show lasted until April 1, 2000 when it was was pulled from the network entirely. This was around the time Cartoon Network had started to shift its classic cartoons to a new premium channel, Boomerang. Although Moxy and Flea are no longer airing anymore, they have the high esteem of being Cartoon Network's first original animated program.
