Crazy Childhood: The Lost Boys By: Nails105
Article Score: 4

Well, let's face it. Crap nowadays isn't getting any better, and we wacks from the past can only turn back to the past to entertain us. But, when we look back at our childhood, we think to ourselves....was it worth it? Well, that's what were gonna find out with the article I like to call....well, you know.

The Lost Boys (1987)

Directed by: Joel Schumacher

Starring: Jason Patric, Kiefer Sutherland, Corey Haim, Corey Feldman, Jamison Newlander, Jami Gertz, Edward Herrmann, Barnard Hughes, Dianne West

I'll be honest with you guys. I'm not a fan of vampire movies. In fact, I'm not into horror movies, really. And yet, I have watched my share of vampire films. Here are a few that I have watched (and luckily, it'll save the trouble of writing full-length reviews about them).

VAMPIRE MOVIES I WATCHED:

Dracula (1931)

Excellent in almost every way. The only problem was that it was too short.

4.5/5

Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)

A winner in visuals and acting, but was too long and complicated to follow.

2/5

Van Helsing (2004)

An awesome action movie with an assortment of monsters to keep movie monster fans happy.

4/5

Twilight (2008)

Boring, depressing, and nearly everyone had a damn frown throughout the whole thing. C'mon, guys. Lighten up! Had it's moments.

2/5

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)

Meh.

2.5/5

So yeah. As you can see, vampire movies are either a hit-or-miss for me. It's not that they're horrible, it's that they either have complicated plots or they're just too bloody for me.

So was "The Lost Boys" an improvement? Yes, I guess I would say that.

While not a classic, "The Lost Boys" was an entertaining and slick ride that no vampire lover should miss. It had me at the edge of my seat at most scenes and I was laughing and was scared, It got the job done, but just by a smidge.

I guess what made the film a bummer was that it reminded me too much of "Twilight", for some reason. While "Twilight" was bad, it just popped into into my head the moment the story started to kick in. You know you're in trouble when an entertaining movie reminds you of a bad movie you've seen.

WHAT'S IT ABOUT?

A family of three moves to Santa Carla, after the mother (Wiest) had some marriage problems. The other two members of the family are brothers Michael (Patric)
and Sam (Haim).

Michael runs into a gang of "lost boys" (led by Sutherland, who strangely looks like Billy Idol. I dunno, maybe it's the hair), and starts to hang out with them. Pretty soon, we, the viewer, find out that Michael is hanging out with a group of blood-sucking vampires.

Sam eventually befriends two young vampire hunters known as "The Frog Brothers" (Feldman and Newlander), who seem to know that Michael is slowly becoming a vampire. It's up to Sam and the "Frog Brothers" to find the lead vampire and kill him, which'll turn Michael to normal.

WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT IT?

Everything was fine and dandy for what it was, until the final showdown, where things started to kick it up a notch.

WHAT'S BAD ABOUT IT?

It's not bloody enough. This is an R-rated movie, for crying out loud! While the final showdown was pretty gory, the rest was cheesy standards.

Also, I couldn't stand that grandpa character. Crazy old goat.

BOTTOM LINE:

"The Lost Boys" is an entertaining yet predictable vampire movie that should be viewed by any vampire lover. The final showdown is what makes the film worthwhile. Just beware of crazy hippie grandpas.

OVERALL SCORE:

3.5/5

If you have any suggestions for any movies/TV shows for me to look at, please reply at the bottom of the page or on my profile. No extremly negative comments, please.

Lost Boys is a cult classic! The second one was horrible though. Surfer Vampires or whatever the hell it was about. Anyways, good job.

I've got to say. Lost Boys is most defiantly a 5/5 in my book, Grandpa is cool, and how can you even begin to compare it to Twilight.

I used to think Sam was the best dressed kid back in the day. It's so funny how they all used to look old to me, now 20 years on they just look like kids.

I always loved this movie growing up- but was rather dissapointed in the sequel they made a couple years back. My all-time favorite vampire movie- Blade!
