The Atari 5200 By: AtariMan76
Article Score: -9

In 1977 Atari released a video game console called the Atari 2600.

The Atari 2600 had the longest life span from that of any game system out there, however, the 2600 was not the only game system that Atari made, in 1982 the Atari 5200 was released.

It's main purpose was to compete with the Intellivision,

but the 5200 ended up competing with the ColecoVision.

The 5200 didn't really sell at all for 2 reasons, first, it wouldn't let you play Atari 2600 games like it promised,

another thing was the controller,

The controllers never worked, but they were a milestone, for one thing it had an analog stick (something you wouldn't see until years later when Nintendo released the N-64), and a pause button which was new at the time.

The Atari 5200 was discontinued in 1984 due to every flaw of the system, although a couple years later it was rereleased, but this time it only had two controller ports instead of four.
