    well the Avengers comic came out in 1963 but the TV show then a black and white TV show came out in 1961 so probably the British TV show.

      The first Avengers Marvel comic came out in 1963, the TV show this film is based on started in 1961.

        Yeah this movie came out 1998 not 1988 I remember this movie very well when it barely came out.
