"Filthy Rich" was also created by "Designing Women" creator Linda Bloodworth-Thomason. Dixie Carter was given the role in "Designing Women" because of her work on this series. The role of Suzanne was written for Delta Burke but CBS execs were leery about letting her take the part, since this series had been considered a flop. Another actress was cast as Suzanne, but she had to bow out at the very last minute, so Burke stepped into the role that was written for her.

Overall, the shows had little in common, though some one-liners from "Rich" were recycled on "Women" ("If sex were fast food, there'd be an arch over your bed," etc.).

Annie Potts and Jean Smart were cast in DW because they had guest-starred together as jewel thieves in an episode of the short-lived show "Lime Street," and Bloodworth-Thomason thought they had great chemistry.

I don't remember this show, but it almost looks like Designing Women was the spin-off of it. Anybody else think it looks like that.
