I loved this show when I was growing up. Then, in the 90's when the Malcolm McDowell version of F.I. I loved the update. The idea of "be careful what you ask for, for you shall surely receive it" played more heavily in the darker, updated 90s version.
Now, the 70's Fantasy Island episodes are available on the "On Demand" cable/satellite TV subscription service. YAY!
I've heard that there are plans for a Fantasy Island movie - with Eddie Murphy playing Roarke and multiple characters. Unfortunately, I'm sure this is going to be yet another comedy, skewering a 1970's TV show, with the subtext of "how could we have ever been stupid enough to have enjoyed a TV show like this?". While I don't think films should necessarily treat T.V. shows like holy icons, there should be a level of respect given to the cast, crew and especially the fans. Snarky sarcasm is too easy and cheap.
